You’re invited to the Betting Game book launch October 24 at Blue Heron Books. Thanks for the cool poster, Orca Books!
Getting set up at Blue Heron Books. Thank goodness I have lots of help!
Ready to go. But where’s the author?
There she is!
The bookstore fills up. Before long, a long lineup of friends and readers forms.
While I sign books…
People guess how many jellybeans are in the jar.
And play a soccer trivia game. But not everyone is soccer savvy.
So we give them clues, hidden inside Betting Game.
(Fortunately, there are plenty of copies on hand.)
People trade their answers for a chocolate coin…but they can roll the dice for a chance to win a better prize.
“Brave enough to gamble that coin?”
“Here’s what you could win…”
Guests wearing a sports jersey get a ticket for a special door prize. This lucky lad wins a Toronto FC scarf!
It’s so good to see so many friends and family members.
(But he’s still a little young for it.)
The pile of books starts shrinking.
People browse for other books. “This one looks good.”
Finally, it’s time to cut the cake.
“Do I want a piece? I thought you’d never ask!”
And thanks to Blue Heron Books, the best indy bookstore in Canada!
It was the perfect blastoff.
Friends and family. Games and goodies. A full house, a great big lineup for signing and an everlasting stack of books. And by the end of the afternoon, a tired but grateful author, wearing a smile that didn’t rub off for weeks.
Thanks to everyone who came out to my launch, everyone who came in spirit, and everyone who bought a copy of my book. Thanks to my family and everyone who helped and advised and pitched in.
And thanks to Blue Heron Books, especially Shelley Macbeth, whose warm Facebook invitation to launch Betting Game at the best indy bookstore in Canada came minutes after I announced Orca was publishing it. You made me feel like a somebody.
