National Day of Truth and Reconciliation at Abbey Gardens
1012 Garden Gate Dr, Haliburton, ON
On the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Abbey Gardens is paying tribute to the Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who saved the Ojibwe Horse from extinction. Some teamed up to rescue the Ojibwe Horse in 1977. Others continue to protect and preserve this rare Indigenous-bred horse today. Like the folks at Abbey Gardens, caretaker to two Ojibwe Horses, Sammy (Wawasum) and Maple (Akoozi).

PA DAY Author Reading with my coauthor Darcy Whitecrow at Peterborough Public Library
Darcy and I are reading Wiijibibamatoon-Anangoonan (Runs with the Stars), our dual language picture book about the Ojibwe Horse. Darcy is the caretaker of a little herd of Ojibwe Horses, just like the ones in the story. He’ll tell you a little about them. We’ll also teach you how to count and say a few words in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe).
