3 Question Thursday with Orca’s Jen Cameron

Today I’m talking with Jen Cameron, the marketing coordinator from Orca Books.

Jen is a new author’s best friend. When Betting Game was still in edits, she gave me a game plan and coached me through the process. My book was in good hands, every step of the way.

Tell me a little about what a marketing coordinator does?

I create promotional materials such as bookmarks and event posters, I help to plan launches, I attend trade shows to promote books to booksellers, librarians, and educators and I suggest ways for authors to connect with readers. In short, I work hard to support our authors the best way I can.

What is your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is meeting authors (either in person or via phone, email or social media) and being a part of the process of getting a book into the hands of readers.  The authors I’ve worked with are committed, passionate and hard-working—and I love helping them achieve their dreams.

What are your top 3 tips for authors?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! I am here to help.

Get to know your local bookstore and booksellers (if you don’t already) and tap into that community.

Join a writer’s association or two and connect with other authors—they have a wealth of expertise and information, and are happy—even eager—to share.

After many years as a bookseller, Jen Cameron started working for Orca Book Publishers in 2014. She is continually inspired by the passion and commitment of the authors she works with. When not working, Jen likes to run, paint, take in theatre, dance and music performances, and of course, read, read, read.
